About

My goal as an audiologist is to ensure people are able to maintain one of our most valuable human capabilities: our ability to communicate. Early diagnosis and intervention is imperative to avoid many of the negative consequences of hearing loss such as depression, isolation, social withdrawal, fatigue, and impaired memory. Dizziness and balance problems are also quite common and individuals are often told their symptoms are part of the aging process and left without proper diagnosis and treatment. My role as an audiologist is to perform diagnostic tests to help determine if the central or peripheral system is involved in the dizziness or balance problem and then collaborate with an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist and/or the patients’ primary care physician as well as a vestibular physical therapist leading to a diagnosis and treatment.Dr. Vanderpol is proud to off er Video Head Impulse Testing or vHIT. vHIT uses a lightweight, high-speed video goggle that quickly and objectively measures the vestibular ocular re? ex (VOR) in response to a patient’s head movements. The VOR is often reduced in cases of peripheral vestibular disorders leading to symptoms of dizziness and imbalance. When appropriate, this test can replace the traditional Videonystagmography (VNG) test leading to greater patient comfort and quicker assessment time.
